The Dell PowerVault MD3860f Fibre Channel array has High-Performance Tiering (HPT), which increases array I/O performance and SSD Cache that accelerates application performance by utilizing SSD drives as extended controller read cache. Its 4U form factor holds up to 60-drive configuration, supporting 3.5” and 2.5” SAS, near-line SAS, and SSD drives.

The PowerVault MD3860f offers flexibility through single or dual active/active controllers with controllers of either 4GB or 8GB cache in dual-controller configurations. Expand beyond the 120 standard configurations by using the Premium Feature Key to support a maximum of 180 or 192 drives.



The Dell powerVaultMD 3860f  storage array fully qualified for use in virtualized application environments with VMware® ESX™ and Microsoft® Hyper-V® software.

The MD storage Manager in that manages theDell PowerVault.MD 3860f Provides an enterprise graphical interface for monitoring multiple arrays and simplifying array management through one console. With the multi-generational and multi-protocol MD Storage Manager, all administrative tasks, including configuration, 
reconfiguration, expansion, maintenance and performance tuning, can be performed without array downtime or interruption to array performance. MD Storage Manager’s configuration flexibility includes the ability to mix RAID levels, segment sizes, array sizes and cache policies all within a single storage array
The     Dell PowerVault MD3860f high-density array holds up to 60 hard drives in just 4U, improving both power and cooling expenses.

The MD3 Fibre Channel array technology provides high-performance and high-capacity storage that is ideal for entry-level storage consolidation with simplicity and reliability. Supporting premium software features, a variety of drive types, and either 2U or high-density 4U chassis the MD3 Fibre channel arrays are versatile in their design.

Maximum up to sixty 3.5 inch SAS or

Provides host-to-controller 16 Gbps FC connection and two 12 Gbps SAS connections

Expansion Modules
Dell PowerVault MD3060e expansion enclosures
Supports 120 physical disks, in addition to 60 physical disks in the RAID enclosure
Redundant path connectivity provides redundant data paths to each hard drive
Support for 180 physical disks is a premium feature and requires activation. The maximum number of physical disks supported without using the premium feature is 120.

One SAS OUT port for expansion to an additional PowerVault MD3060e expansion enclosureNOTE: SAS connectors are SFF-80644 compliant.
Serial connector (debug port): Six pin port.

Back-Panel Connectors (Per RAID Controller Module)
SAS connectors: Two SAS IN ports to connect hosts. SAS and FC connections are to the same host is not supported. Two SAS OUT ports, it is recommended that you use the first port for expansion to an additional PowerVault MD3060e expansion enclosure. Only one expansion port is supported at any given time. SAS connectors are SFF-8644 compliant.

Serial connector (debug port): One mini USB port
Management Ethernet connector: One 100/1000 Mbps Ethernet connection for out-of-band management of the enclosure and the second Ethernet port is reserved.

FC connectors: Four FC IN ports to connect hosts. Directly attaching to the FC ports is not supported. The host connection must use an FC switch.

The PowerVault MD3200i is an iSCSI SAN device.  It comes with two raid controller each with its own management network interface.  Generally, all management is done through the "Modular Disk Storage Manager" application.  If however you have inherited this device from someone else or have totally forgotten what the IP and or password is then you can recover or reset these with the following.
