The IBM System Storage® TS3310 Tape Library consists of IBM System Storage TS3310 Tape Library Model L5B (3576 Model L5B) and IBM System Storage TS3310 Tape Library Model E9U (3576 Model E9U). The TS3310 Tape Library now incorporates the new IBM LTO Ultrium 6 full-high 8 Gbps dual port Fiber Channel tape drives feature to enhance drive performance. Mixed Ultrium generations and attachment tape drive types are supported where drive space is available. The IBM TS3310Tape Library is a modular, scalable tape library designed to address the tape storage needs of rapidly growing companies that find themselves space- and resource-constrained with tape backup and other tape applications. For businesses challenged with rapidly growing data backup and long-term data retention needs and limited physical space for a tape library, the IBM TS3310 offers simple, rapid expansion as processing needs grow. This tape library allows the administrative user to start small, with only a si

Lightweight Directory Access Protocol in Dell Power Vault ML 6000 tape library

Image
The DellPower Vault ML 6000 Tape library supports the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). LDAP is the industry standard Internet protocol that provides centralized user account management. User account information is centralized and shared by different applications, simplifying user account management tasks. Enabling LDAP allows existing user accounts residing on an LDAP server to be integrated into the library's current user account management subsystem. Administrative users can enable and configure LDAP. Once LDAP is enabled, users can log into the library using either LDAP or local authentication. To use local authentication, you must enter only a local username and password.  To use LDAP authentication, you must enter a directory service user name and password and specify an LDAP domain. Administrative users can add, delete, and modify only local user account information, including a user’s partition access settings. The library Web client and operator panel

About the status pane in SUN SL 48 TapeLibrary

The System Status pane for the SL48 shows the power supply status, the current device and drive status. Library Name — the name of the device, which was set in the Configuration: System screen. Status of the Library and tape drives: The blue exclamation point Status Warning icon indicates that user intervention is necessary, but that the device can still perform most operations. The green Status Ok icon indicates that the device is fully operational and that no user intervention is required. The red X-Status Error icon indicates that user intervention is required and that the device is not capable of performing some operations. How to clean the SUN SL 500 Tape Library drives?

The library tape drives require periodic cleaning to prevent read and write errors. There are two methods of cleaning the drives. 1. Automatic Cleaning 2. Manual Cleaning We must use cleaning cartridges with the compatible media types with the drive types in the library. Cleaning cartridges have a limited life span. It is important to enter only new cleaning cartridges into the library. When we enter a cleaning cartridge into the library, the library controller considers the cartridge to be new and sets the usage count to zero. Whenever a cleaning cartridge is used to clean a drive, its usage count is incremented. When a cleaning cartridge’s usage count exceeds its threshold, the cartridge must be replaced. Refer to the tape drive publications to determine the maximum usage count or threshold, for each type of cleaning cartridge. We can use the SL Console to display the status of a cleaning cartridge at any time. The following statuses are possible: Oracle

Methods of operating the SUN SL 24 Tape Library

The Tape Library can be operated by the following three methods: 1.       Remote management interface (RMI) — this interface lets the user monitor and control the Autoloader or Library from a web page. The user can access most Autoloader or Library functions from the RMI. 2.       Operator control panel (OCP) — this interface lets the user operate the device from the front panel. 3.       Host backup software —the user can perform any functions provided by the backup software.       Oracle's StorageTek SL24 tape autoloader provides high-density, entry-level tape automation, with capacity up to 36 TB in a 2RU form factor.
