Which is an ideal server for small businesses?
The R420 is a good choice for a small business server rack
and has even more enterprise capability .
The Dell Power Edge R420 is a 1U, two-socket server and uses
Intel's new Xeon E5-2400 processors. The server supports up to eight
2.5" hot-plug hard drives, up to 12 DIMMs, and two PCIe 3.0 expansion
slots. The R420 supports up to 12TB internal capacity and up to 192GB of
memory. It’s primed for virtualisation, workgroup collaboration, email, web and
file serving – but also as a low-profile compute node for data centres. The
R420 is also highly attractive for compute-intense applications in
space-constrained areas, as well as high-performance computing (HPC) workloads.
Consistent worldwide support makes it appealing to multinational businesses and
organizations.
Serverental has R420 on rental offers dual SD media making the hypervisors redundant and failsafe. Other
reliability and availability features include up to four 3.5-inch or eight
2.5-inch hot-plug hard drives, both hardware and software RAID options, and
redundant, hot-plug power supplies.
The Dell OpenManage™ systems management portfolio includes
integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) with Lifecycle Controller.
This embedded feature helps IT administrators manage Dell servers in physical,
virtual, local and remote environments, operating in-band or out-of-band, with
or without a systems management software agent.
OpenManage simplifies the lifecycle of deploying, updating,
monitoring, and maintaining the Dell PowerEdge servers.
The PowerEdge R420 on Rental Bangalore has a well-designed, all metal, rack
mount chassis. The internal layout is incredibly neat with minimal cabling in
evidence and a full length lift-off lid which allowed us easy access to
everything inside.
The administrators can use the integrated Dell Lifecycle
Controller software to sound an alert if someone tries to open the server
cover through the integrated Dell Lifecycle Controller software. Large
and roomy, the interior of the R420 allows for good airflow and easy access to
add, hot-swap, or upgrade components.
There are few hot-swappable components, but that’s
compensated for by built-in redundancy, including dual-rotor fans, six of which
keep the internal temperature within bounds.
The R420 has dual Gigabit network ports but there’s no room
for an extra daughtercard. Two PCI Express Gen 3 slots are available and Dell
offers a good choice of Gigabit, 10GbE and Fibre Channel upgrade cards.
The Enterprise hardware upgrade is already present and needs
only a licence key to activate its dedicated network port, vFlash slot, remote
control and virtual media services.
Serverental offers R420 on rental is also highly attractive for compute-intense
