Introduction to Servers
Servers are computers installed
with computer program or process to accepts and responds to requests made by
another program, known as a client. The server is a part of software
which delivers a service.It might be on the same machine of the client or in
other machines
It is possible to convert
any computer into a web server by installing server software and connect
that machine to the internet.
Servers names are related
to their functions .File servers receive, store, and send files, web servers
store web pages, mail servers receive, store, and forward emails, etc.
Types:
There are two different types of Network Server, client-server networking
model, and peer-to-peer networking model
Dedicated servers: Some
servers are dedicated to a specific task, like print servers, file servers,
network servers, and database servers.They are called dedicated servers.
Shared servers: Servers
like web servers can take on the responsibility of e-mail, DNS, FTP, and even multiple websites. They are
called shared servers.

Uses of Server:
The server is used to
store, retrieve and send files and data to other computers on a network.
Mail servers are used to
send and receive emails through the internet.
Web server hosts websites
and permits users to access these websites.
File server maintains
files and permits the clients or users to transfer files from it.
Servers also help the websites to broadcast streaming multimedia content by providing
multimedia capabilities.
Some servers are used to
exchange data in Internet newsgroup to provide on-time discussion capabilities.
Servers works as a
distribution and delivery source for many public newsgroups.
Some servers can manage network traffic in corporate set-ups.

are incorporated with redundant, uninterruptible power supplies to reduce power
failure.
Servers include

Server casings are
usually flat and wide and designed to be rack-mounted.Tower
server is a standalone machine that is built into an upright case.
